...My hero...

This gentle beast
this handsome beast
laid his head across my wrist's
and when he'd drawn his final breath
my wrist's were branded
with his love and trust.

Maxie was always an "unassuming" big guy who left us the same way as he'd arrived, all those years ago, peacefully with the minumin of fuss!
Without going into to much detail, we lost Max due to an internal bleed, a small one but sadly it involved his spleen, the same as our beloved Corra.

He didn't suffer as we quickly knew something was wrong and took him into the vets where, after a long discussion, it was decided that our only course of action was to help him on his final journey.  Yes we did discuss all sorts of treatment but just looking at Max told us he was ready to leave.

It was obviously as very sad time for us but he went very peacefully whilst John fed him treats, he just rested his head on my lap and was gone.  Luckily Ann, his saviour so many times before was able to carry out this final act, an act of kindness.

Yes there was a lot of tears from the three of us as it's a sad day when any loved family pet has to leave us but as you will know, Max wasn't just any family pet!

Max had suffered many upsets over the years, if it wasn't for Ann we would have lost him 6 years earlier and yet, no matter what, Max himself didn't bother, he just got on with enjoying life to the full and faced everything head on in his own quiet yet courageous way.
Up until his death he'd been doing quite well.  We had a problem with his rear legs again but acupuncture soon sorted that out, he was still living a happy, healthy abeit more sedate life so we can't complain, we can rest easy on that account.
He was being closely monitored, mainly because of his age hence the reason we realized that something was wrong, yet again we must be thankful for that.

He has left a large void in our lives after all, every day was a battle but we content ourselves that he had the best we could give him, he hadn't wanted for anything, we have to cling to that!

Maxie was a great tutor, an ambassador for the breed as well as being
"Our Hero"
We have learned so much during our time together and all that is left to say is
"thank you Maxie"
Sleep easy big guy
