Come on in & meet
Mickey

(Mad Max)

When Maxie Boy came to us he was 2 years old, had been locked in a barn, had no formal training or human interaction.
He'd already been rehoused with an old man whole believed in order to train a big dog you needed to use a big stick so needless to say when he finally arrived he was a very confused, beaten dog both physically and mentally.

I'll always remember how "dead" his eyes were, he always had the look as if to say
"well this is nice but what happens next"

To this day he still shows signs of his previous trauma's which manifest themselves as severe skin problems and depression so Mick has been and always will be an on-going project.

Mick's a character, the joker in the pack with the most wicked sense of humour known to man.
His favourite game is lying on the bed watching the world go by when suddenly he'll erupt, shouting out of the window at some poor innocent passer-by who nearly drops on the spot as they can hear him but they have no idea where he is !
He'll then come through to us with I swear, the most sadistic look on his face as if to say
"did you see that, brilliant wasn't it"?
That's Mick, I swear he laughs behind his paws.

He's a lovely natured big lad, very laid back, forgiving as well as being the most lazy dog I've ever known, put it this way, how many dogs do you know lie down to eat their food ?

Over the past few years he's been treated by a Holistic Vet as steroids have very bad side effects for Mick.
We've found that he's responded very well to this approach and at this moment is undergoing a course of Acupuncture for his sore knee, we're also hoping that it will also have an effect on his skin.

Mick has never complained, not once even when he went through his "anorexic" phase when we had to force feed him, he didn't grumble once and to this day he's been the perfect patient.
He's the only dog I know that will pull you "into" the surgery, then be in no hurry to leave, in fact on many occasions the vet and I have been sitting talking about anything and everything whilst Mick's been fast asleep between us.

At the moment the main problem he's having apart from Freya hanging from his neck is his skin has flared up again and his knee gives him bother but even at that he's still full of mischief, game for a laugh and still taking all the loving that's going.
His knee has really improved with the help of his
"needles"
so things are looking good for him.

He's our love, our hero and no matter who meets him, they go away with a long lasting impression.
Those who actually know him have been "touched" by him as he always leaves you with a feeling of well being.
He's a very spiritual dog.

You can always tell when someone's met Mick as they're voice softens when they mention his name.

He really is a very special lad,
it's definitely a case of
"to know him is to love him"

Sadly, Maxie Boy left us for the rainbow bridge on the 26th October 2006 having suffered a ruptured spleen.
We shared many happy years together in which he taught us so much, we will forever be grateful.
Maxie was such an ambassador to the breed, an absolute hero who can and wont ever be replaced.  He will forever be in our hearts and out memories.
Sleep easy big guy and thank you.
