Pet Insurance
Can you afford not to be insured?

Like many of you, I too grudge paying out money
for something I'll hopefully never need but Thank God I did or else Freya
would be no more!
In order to keep her going in medication alone,
I would be looking for at least £1000 - £1500 "per year"
whereas
my annual premium is just £220 including a £50 excess!
This may seem a little bit steep but given that she is also covered (for
life) against accidents, any other kind of illness or condition she may
contract as well as third party liability makes it money well spent in
my book, she really wouldn't survive without it!
I was lucky as I found a good, independent
company that specialized in Pet Insurance.
Vet Insurance Protector focus on providing
clients with better than best advice relating to pet insurance.
There are literally hundreds of different policies and ways in which you
can insure your pet.
Here are some of the things to consider when
looking for pet insurance.
1. Long term illnesses
and injuries that the company will continue to
pay the claim
for more than 12 months?
2. Does the premium
increase with age?
3. Is the excess
£30, £40, £50 (be aware that some insurers excess is
£40 or
15%, whichever is greater). Beware of the % excess?
4. It may be wise
to note that 15% excess of a £4000 claim would give
you an excess
of £600. Some companies increase the excess with
age so as your
dog has advanced in age the excess can be as high as
£69 plus
35% of any claim. For example a £4000 claim would leave
you with an
excess of £1469?
5. Would the cost
of your insurance increase if you make a claim?
6. Is the scheme
postcode rated?
7. How financially
secure is the company your insuring with?
8. Are they a member
of the General Insurance Standards Council?
9. Are certain conditions
you may claim for limited such as if you have
a policy that
provide £2000 of cover, are certain conditions limited
to £500?
This is only a brief summary of things to look
out for.
